about

Unreleased track from the album "Splurge" (1999) by Splurge. This recording was not completed.
More of a jam than an actual song—editing it didn’t help.
Anoraks note: the flanged drums from the intro were sampled for a loop in the new version on The Cure For The Cure. The loop was originally used as the backing track for the demo and survived, along with the original thrashy acoustic guitar.

lyrics

Hey Children Throw my caution to the wind No I won’t ever doubt again And I’ll be free of all of them It’s scary but it’s heady Throw my suitcase in the car With my vox and my guitar It’s a trip to take with care If you’re not really ready Hey children gather ‘round Can you hear that singing sound? Hey children bang the drum Do it while you’re young What’s done is done What will come will come Don’t be afraid Throw your toys away Throw me back into the show It’s the only thing I love and know It don’t matter where I go My line cannot be broken Throw my head right back and laugh I see no road I know no path The words uncertainty and death Are ready to be spoken Hey children watch your tongues Don’t lead you where your feet can’t run Hey children watch your heads Don’t forget your hearts What’s done is done What will come will come Don’t be afraid Throw your toys away.

about

Splurge Australia

Splurge is to quote MOJO magazine “a song-packing Melbourne four-piece” that has released three albums—Splurge (1999), Heavy Weather (2002) and The Cure For The Cure (2007). MOJO heard the ghost of Lennon in the way “they rock, they play it gentle, they deliver the hooks” and in songwriter Greg Williams’ “expressive and emotionally direct” voice are echoes of Grant McLennon and Steve Kilbey. ... more
